Tick-borne Encephalitis — Sweden
The feared taiga tick, an [ecto]parasite that can carry a dangerous form of tick-borne encephalitis (TBE), has spread to Sweden, local media reported [Wed 13 Jul 2016].
According to Swedish Television, the range of taiga ticks, also known as _Ixodes persulcatus_, has recently increased in Russia and Finland. During a study, the tick was also detected in 9 out of 36 field localities in the Bothnian Bay area in Sweden.
