AFM is a condition that affects the nervous system which can result from a variety of causes including viral infections. Following the increased number of reports of AFM among children that were received by the CDC from August – October 2014, CDC has been conducting surveillance for AFM to better understand the etiology, risk factors, preventive measures, and potential therapies for this syndrome.
