Avian Influenza H5N6 — South Korea
A highly pathogenic strain of bird flu was discovered in 2 dead cats on Saturday [31 Dec 2016], a provincial government official said, marking the 1st infection of the virus found in mammals in 2 years.
The H5N6 strain of avian influenza (AI) which has infected chickens across the country was found in the bodies of the cats in Pocheon [Kyeongki – Do, S. Korea], some 46 km north of Seoul, the official said, citing information from health authorities.
