Glanders — India
The animal husbandry department here [Bijnor] has sounded an alert after 2 horses in Bijnor’s Najibabad succumbed to the deadly glanders disease, while 4 other equines are suspected to be suffering from the disease. As a precautionary measure, as many as 100 blood samples of horses have been taken so far and sent for testing.
The infectious disease is caused by a bacterium which spreads from animal to animal. Humans who come in contact with the affected animals can also contract this
