Japanese Encephalitis — India
Assam continues to be plagued by acute encephalitis syndrome (AES) with 24 positive JE [Japanese encephalitis] cases and 7 casualties reported so far till Monday [13 Jun 2016].
Assam witnessed 863 deaths due to JE from 1996 to 2007. In 2001, 160 succumbed due to JE. The following year, 472 JE cases were reported.
