A new disease has been confirmed in an elk harvested near Whitebird, Idaho last year [2018]. This is the 1st confirmed case of Treponema associated hoof disease (TAHD), a disease that “is caused by a spirochete bacterium that causes hoof abnormalities and lameness in elk,” in the state, Local News 8 reports.
Previously found in elk within Washington and Oregon, the disease is not widespread yet; however, the Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife is working on a study at Washington
