Zika virus — Worldwide/Unknown
The Zika virus may be associated with acute disseminated encephalomyelitis (ADEM), an inflammation of the brain and spinal cord, according to a small study being presented at the American Academy of Neurology’s annual meeting.
Researchers identified 2 people in Brazil who developed ADEM, out of 6 patients presenting with neurologic symptoms. Both patients tested positive for Zika and had signs of damage to the white matter of the brain.
