Slinger – Federal emergency response contractors removed the last of several thousand gallons of hazardous chemicals Tuesday from an abandoned metal plating factory in the village, a U.S. Environmental Protection Agency official said.
…”After today, all of the hazardous chemical liquids will be gone from the building,” said Verneta Simon, an on-scene coordinator with the EPA’s Superfund program in Chicago.
An estimated 3,400 gallons of metal plating waste and other liquids were pumped into a container truck Tuesday morning, Simon said.
Several thousand more gallons of acids and metal washing and rinsing solutions that had been packed in drums were removed Tuesday afternoon under Simon’s supervision. The load included extremely hazardous nitric acid.
