Maryland horse owners are advised to be on high alert after a pony in Frederick county died from Potomac horse fever last month [July 2018]. The Maryland Department of Agriculture said the pony, which was originally from the University of Kentucky’s Equine Diagnostic Laboratory, fell ill on 26 Jul 2018 and died 4 days later. A necropsy of the pony was performed at the Frederick Animal Health Laboratory on 31 Jul 2018.
