At least 84 people have died after drinking toxic liquor in a Mumbai-area slum, the police said Saturday [20 Jun 2015], as the toll continued to rise in the worst episode of its kind in more than a decade.
At least 36 people were hospitalized, said a senior Mumbai police official, Atulchandra Kulkarni, and the death toll is likely to rise.
“The people who are coming are coming at a near terminal stage,” Mr. Kulkarni said of the ill arriving at hospitals.
