Polio — Pakistan
A total of 5 more children — 3 from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and 2 from Sindh — have tested positive for poliovirus, it emerged on Sunday [25 Aug 2019].
With the latest addition, the number of polio cases in the country has climbed to 58 this year [2019], indicating a sharp increase of 383.33% from last year’s [2018] figure of 12. It may be recalled that only 8 cases had been confirmed in 2017.
