An increase in the number of hand-foot-mouth disease (HFMD) patients in the North Island has Bay of Plenty [North Island] health officials urging parents and daycare centres to enforce children’s hygiene. In the last month Tauranga Hospital has treated around 20 children, aged between 2 and 5 years old, suffering from dehydration as a result of the contagious virus.
