Mass hysteria can be triggered by stress. Due to intertribal warfare and the flight of refugees, the population of North Darfur is now considerably less than it was in 2006, and the school kids could have been stressed by fighting in the area. See (8 Feb 2013).

BIO: Richard T. Cartwright PE, CHMM, CPIM* is the Senior Vice President responsible for remediation technology marketing at MECx, LP.He has an MBA in Operations and Logistics Management from Indiana University, a BES in Chemical Engineering from Brigham Young University, and recently completed a Professional Certificate Program in Project Management at the University of Buffalo.
